「ここで待っていればきっとソラに会えるよ」

ピンツがカイリにやさしく告げた。

「あいつ、また来るって言ってたぞ」

ハイネも励ますように言う。

「うん！」

彼らの言葉にうれしそうにカイリが頷いた横で、プルートもうれしそうに吠えた。

「遅かったな、カイリ」

突然かけられた声に皆が立ち上がる。

カイリが出てきたときと同じように壁に大きな黒い穴―はざまへの穴が開いていた。

そしてその前に立っていたのはアクセル。

「なんとなーく、ここに来ると思ったんだよな」

アクセルが口の端をゆがめ、笑いながらカイリに歩み寄る。

「このっ―」

ハイネがアクセルに頭突きを食らわせようと駆け込むが、そのままするりとかわされた。ハイネは地面に激突する。続いたピンツも同じようにかわされ、床に頭から転がった。

「それにしてもカイリ、闇に飛び込むなんてすっごい勇気だな！」

アクセルはそう言いながらカイリの腕をつかむ。

「放して！」

しかし、アクセルはここでなにかを説明するつもりはないらしく、カイリを穴へと引きずっていく。そのあとをプルートが追いかける。

「待てよ！」

慌ててハイネが床から起き上がりアクセルたちのあとを追うが―すでにそこには何の痕跡も残ってはいなかった。

 

“If you wait here, I’m sure you’ll be able to meet Sora,” Pence told Kairi kindly.

“That guy said he’d come here again,” added Hayner encouragingly.

“Yeah!”

Kairi nodded, seeming pleased with their words, and beside her, Pluto barked happily.

“Too late, Kairi.”

Everyone stood up at the voice that had suddenly called out.

The same as when Kairi had appeared, a large black hole—a hole leading to the interstice—opened in the wall.

And standing in front of it was Axel.

“For so~me reason, I figured you’d come here.”

Axel walked toward Kairi, the corners of his mouth twisting into a smile.

“You—!”

Hayner rushed forward, trying to headbutt Axel, but Axel smoothly dodged. Hayner crashed into the ground. Pence, who had followed, was avoided in the same way and tumbled headfirst to the floor.

“But anyway, Kairi, you’ve got some guts jumping into the darkness like that!”

As Axel said this, he grabbed Kairi’s arm.

“Let me go!”

However, it seemed that Axel had no intention of explaining things here, and he dragged Kairi toward the opening. Pluto chased after them.

“Wait!”

Hayner scrambled up from the floor and tried to follow them—but already, no trace of them remained.

 

Notes: “interstice”- I think I’m going to make a separate post about the trouble I’m having with this word. 0_0

I skipped the scene where Kairi shows up in Twilight Town. Going through the corridor of darkness makes her faint, maybe because she’s too “light” for it. Pluto licks her face until she wakes up, and then the three kids introduce themselves, and she asks them if they know Sora.
